Ductless heating & cooling

Comfort for the Rooms Ducts Can't Reach

Third-floor bedrooms, finished basements, additions, rowhomes with no ductwork at all — mini splits heat and cool them beautifully, room by room.

Zoned, ductless, efficient

Philly's housing stock was built before ductwork. Mini splits solve that.

Rowhomes, twins, converted flats — much of Philadelphia was never built for central air, and retrofitting ducts means tearing open walls. A ductless mini split skips all of it: a slim outdoor unit, discreet indoor heads, and a three-inch wall penetration per room. Full heating and cooling, no demolition.

Each indoor head is its own zone with its own remote — cool the bedroom at night without paying to cool the whole house. Modern cold-climate mini splits heat efficiently through Philly winters too, making them a genuine one-system answer for additions, top floors, garages, and whole small homes.

AJM installs and services the major mini split brands, sizes each zone to its actual room, and runs linesets clean and hidden. A mini split install should look like it grew there — not like an afterthought bolted to the wall.

Know the warning signs

Six signs a mini split is your answer

01A room that's never comfortable

The third-floor bedroom that's an oven in July and an icebox in January — one head fixes it.

02Window units everywhere

Loud, inefficient, insecure, and blocking your windows. A mini split retires all of them.

03An addition or converted space

Extending ductwork to new space is expensive and often underperforms. Ductless is built for this.

04No ductwork at all

Radiator-heated rowhome with no cooling? Ductless adds AC without opening a single wall.

05Fighting over one thermostat

Zoning ends the war. Everyone sets their own room.

06High bills from central air

Cooling the whole house to use two rooms is expensive. Zones cool only what you're using.

How it works

From site visit to zoned comfort

  1. 1
    Room-by-room assessment

We measure each space and its real load — sun, insulation, use — and design zones to match.

  2. 2
    Placement & quote

Head locations, lineset routing, and pricing agreed before anything is drilled.

  3. 3
    Clean installation

Most single-zone installs are one day; multi-zone typically two. Linesets run hidden.

  4. 4
    Commissioned & tuned

Every zone tested heating and cooling, refrigerant verified, controls walked through.

Common questions

Ductless Mini Split Systems FAQs

Do mini splits really heat through a Philly winter?

Cold-climate models do — they're rated to well below zero and heat efficiently through everything our winters throw at them. We spec cold-climate units whenever heating is part of the job.

How visible are the indoor units?

The standard wall head is a slim white unit high on the wall. Where looks matter more, ceiling cassettes and floor consoles are available — we'll show options during the site visit.

Are mini splits noisy?

The indoor heads run at whisper levels — quieter than a refrigerator. The outdoor unit is dramatically quieter than a traditional condenser.

What maintenance do they need?

Rinse the filters monthly (two minutes, no tools) and get a professional deep clean annually. Skipping the cleanings is the number-one cause of efficiency loss and musty smells.
